Introduction

As I write this in early 2010 it will be four years until the 100th anniversary of the start of the Great War. This conflict, more than any other, touched the lives of almost all families in the UK not only during the war but for many years after.

Over the years I have collected a lot of information about officers and men who fought and died with the King's (Liverpool) Regt in the war and this web site is an attempt to make this research, at least in part, available to a wider audience especially when interest in the war will reach a crescendo again in 2014.

On occasion I may work with others on this project and their contribution will be appropriately acknowledged. Finally I would like to thank the King's (Liverpool) Regt (now the Duke of Lancaster's Regt), the Museum of the Liverpool Scottish and the Museum of Liverpool for their encouragement and support over the years.

The Over-arching Project

Over the past 14 years or so work has progressed to create a database to enable family members to research ancestors who served with the King's (Liverpool) Regiment in the Great War. To date the database contains the details, pulled from a whole variety of sources, of over 75,000 officers and men who served with the Regiment during the war - with the number and content growing day by day. The database also contains details of well over 5,000 named photos i.e. 1 in 14 of the content.

This full database is to be made available on gallery via a touch screen when the new Museum of Liverpool opens in 2011. Until this time it is regretted that the full database for logistical reasons will not be available.

The Web Site

This web site will list all known casualties of the King's (Liverpool) Regt by Battalion. It will contain, when available, transcriptions of the service papers of the soldiers. At the moment it contains only a handful of photos that there are available mainly owing to the issues of copyright - this may change. If you can supply a photo please ensure that it is not copyrighted.

Initially the database will carry information on the officers and men who were killed with the 1st/7th Battalion of the Regiment and will extend to other 1st line Territorial Battalions before moving on to other units. Work has been started for the 1st/6th KLR. This is a big task and will take time but a lot of information has already been gathered.

What can you do to help?

If you have any information on any individual who served with the King's (Liverpool) Regt in the Great War (i.e. 1914-1918) then we would be more than pleased if we could add it to this site and to the master database which is held in the Museum of Liverpool. We are happy to post any photos that are sent to us either on this site and/or on the main database.

Please contact us via the Guest Book above and we will get back to you.
